Present address: nab. Fontanki 58 apt.5, Scientific interests:
My primary interest is in the mechanisms of ion channel signal ing and in general in the signal transduction mechanisms in biological systems. I am interested in the protein-protein interactions in these processes and in mechanisms of regulation of these interactions.
I have strong interest in application of computer science in biology, both for data acquisition and analysis and for model ing of biological systems.
History:
Student of bioorganic chemistry at the Chemical Faculty of Vilnius Engineer (Technician), Laboratory of the Karyology of Unicel ular Organisms, Biological Institute of St. Petersburg State University.
Technician, Laboratory of Ion Channels of Cel Membrane, Institute of Cytology, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
Postgraduate studies at the Laboratory of Ion Channels of Cel ular Membrane, Institute of Cytology, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg. Ph.D. thesis "Interaction of inostoltrisphosphate receptors and calcium channels in the plasma membrane of A431 cel s" was defended in 2003.
Research assistant/research associate, Laboratory of Ion Channels of Cel ular Membrane, Institute of Cytology, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
Research assistant, Cardiovascular research Laboratory & Microvascular Research Laboratories, School of Medical Sciences, University of Bristol May-Aug '11 Research assistant, Laboratory of Ion Channels of Cel ular Membrane, Institute of Cytology, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg.
Present time Independent electrophysiological software developer and voluntary researcher in the laboratory of physiology of excitable membranes in the Pavlov's Institute of Physiology RAS, St. Technical
Design and maintenance of patch-clamp rigs. I have built two low-noise patch Extensive experience in ion channel recording, both single channel and whole cel /perforated patch. I have spent ~5 years recording single channels of low conductance, and ~5 years of whole-cel currents in inexcitable cel s.
Measurement of intracel ular calcium concentration with fluorescent probes (Fura-2, Fluo-4 (using a plate reader)). I have built a PMT based Fura-2 rig as Basic mammalian cel culture, isolation and cel culture of primary cel lines. I was routinely preparing mouse & rat peritoneal macrophage primary cel culture, growing carcinoma cel s and vascular endothelial cel lines.
Basic molecular biology skil s - gene manipulation using bacterial vectors, DNA Isolation and cultivation of protozoan strains from wildlife, purification of Paramecium caudatum intranuclear symbionts (Holospora spp.). I have developed the technique of differential purification of macro- and micro nuclei of Paramecium. I was a part of a team responsible for the maintenance of Paramecium cel col ection.
Computer
I have experience in programming of software for electrophysiology and genetics, using C/C++, Pascal, and FORTRAN. I was developing programs for simulation of neural interconnections in the cortex, protein structure analysis, and specialized homology search in the gene sequences.
I have developed a set of specialized software for single channel and whole-cel data acquisition and analysis (our laboratory could not afford buying it).
I was fully responsible for maintaining the IT structure of the laboratory during my years in Institute of Cytology, including data backups etc. This IT network was required to run on 24/7 basis.
Currently I am using GraphPad Prism and Microcal Origin for statistical data analysis and presentation.
Current work:
1. writing up the paper on ATP induced calcium entry and a cation current with novel characteristics in glomerular endothelial cel s; 2. working on the Linux-based single-channel/whole-cel data acquisition software package (under GNU GPL v2 license), available for download from Languages:
