Differences in cross-sectional imaging procedures:
Ultrasound: An ultrasound scan of the abdominal cavity visualizes the liver, gallbladder,
pancreas, spleen, kidneys, prostate, uterus, ovaries, lymph nodes and blood vessels. Diseases in these structures, such as tumors, cysts or stones, are therefore easily visible. The ultrasound image will be distorted if an individual is overweight or has not fasted sufficiently. Air in the body (e.g. in the stomach or intestine) will also impair the image quality.  Magnetic resonance imaging - MRI: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an excellent
imaging method for visualizing the structures and functions of the tissues and organs in the body. The quality, and in particular the local resolution, of the images produced by the MRI equipment are superior to ultrasound scanning. The method does not involve any exposure to radiation and is not associated with any health risks. MRI scanning of the organs is not hindered by any of the obstacles and difficulties mentioned above, as is often the case with ultrasound examinations. Unlike ultrasound, MRI is able to examine the entire anatomy of the body (including the central nervous system, bone structure and also the vascular system by using angiographic techniques). The whole body can be scanned by MRI, as opposed to A total body MRI does not have the capability to effectively evaluate the lungs for cancer (if indicated low-dose CT being more adequate). In addition, as a screening tool it is not optimal for the diagnosis of early colon cancer ((if indicated optical or virtual colonography by low-  Multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT) of the heart: If there is a justifiable indication
(from early detection procedures by EC as part of risk stratification), low-dose MSCT of the coronary arteries is helpful for establishing calcifications, as a sign of atherosclerosis. Internationally, professional associations have agreed that if the value is above the 75th percentile (in other words, a value corresponding to the 25% 'worst' sex and age-referenced values), preventive medication (usually aspirin and so-called statins) is appropriate as a supplement to intensive lifestyle adjustments. These medications can reduce the relevant risk of a heart attack by about 30%. In clinically 'demanding' cases, a non-invasive coronary angiogram will be performed at EC using MSCT, the reliability of which is commensurate with that of a standard heart catheter examination.
